A Summons is a notification to the defendant that a complaint has been made and they are now being sued. A copy of the filed Complaint is served along with the Summons notification to the parties involved. The Summons commands a time limited response by the Defendant.
What is the law?
The Nevada Rules of Civil Procedure addresses Summons:
NRCP COMMENCEMENT OF ACTION; SERVICE OF PROCESS, PLEADINGS, MOTIONS, AND ORDERS:
Rule 5 (b) The summons shall be signed by the clerk, be under the seal of the court, contain the name of the court and county and the names of the parties, be directed to the defendant, state the name and address of the plaintiff’s attorney, if any, otherwise the plaintiff’s address, and the time within which the defendant must appear and defend, and shall notify the defendant that failure to do so will result in a judgment by default against the defendant for the relief demanded in the complaint. When service of the summons is made by publication, the summons shall, in addition to any special statutory requirements, also contain a brief statement of the object of the action.
